Artist Story
I was first introduced to ceramics in a high school art class. It was the first time I had worked with clay, and I was hooked. In college, I took as many classes as I could in pottery and sculpture, in addition to my regular classes, and knew it was the art form for me. It was what made me happy, but I didn't think I could make a career out of it. I began a career in teaching soon after graduation, and didn't touch clay for 2 long years. In 2016 I was able to get a wheel and small kiln, with the hopes that making pottery again would help alleviate the stress from my teaching career. I began posting about what I was making in my free time on social media... and the rest is history! In 2023, I have been able to quit my previous career, and have taken La Le Pottery full time! I am so grateful I found clay. I can't wait to see where I go, and who I will continue to meet and be inspired by in the process. I am grateful you are here!
Artist Statement
I am inspired by the nature around me. It is magical to me that I can take dirt from the earth and transform it into a beautiful and functional piece of art with heat, chemistry, and time. Each of my pieces are wheel thrown and hand craft each piece one-by-one, and fired in the kiln 3-4 times. As you can see in my work, I love details! There is something about the craftsmanship and detailing of a piece that is so satisfying to me. I love when a person can look as something and see and appreciate the time and skill that went into it. Due to the level of detailing and firing techniques I use in my work, I am only able to make small batches at a time. I love that about my art process though - It cannot be rushed. There is something so satisfying about holding something you created from start to finish with your own 2 hands that started as a thought in your head. As I said my work is inspired by nature, but it always changes. I am not held to just one idea or theme, and like to give myself the creative freedom to explore ideas and concepts within my work. Most of my ideas begin in a sketchbook, and can transform greatly by the time it is actually fired. I deeply hope that my work helps people to see beauty around them and brings joy to their daily life.I choose to create pieces that are filled with happy themes, as this world can be a dark place if you let it. I want to release happy things into this world, things that can spark a moment of joy for someone, even if it is just a mug.
